Properly handle dots '.' in property names

      Description

      Dots are used internally to distinct between platform- site- and application-properties.
      Therefore properties containing a dot are not correctly handled by appNG.

      The only alternative is:

      Property names in application.xml must not contain the '.' character.

      This could break backwards compatibility.
